Despatches 6-3

Well this issue is all about the World Boardgaming Conference at Baltimore. We had a good group representing AHIKS Europe, both those in the team, and our other supporters. Everyone enjoyed themselves hugely. This year there were more gamers there than ever before. Over 1000. The relaxation of the programme allowing more family games and more games companies probably accounts for this. Just to see the crowds pressing in to take part in the Settlers tournament and you would be left in no doubt that this is what the gaming public demands. There must have been over 100 competitors.

The AHIKS Europe team did very well. I have not yet seen the final positions, but there is a full report of our efforts elsewhere. Outside of the tournament games we all took part and are looking forward to next year. The venue will be the same, but it is earlier in the year. Tuesday 26th June to Sunday 1st July.Already the plans are being made and it looks like some of us will stay over to enjoy the 4th July party.

Left over from my last Line is the Tigers in the Mist game. I remember telling you that the jury was still out on the game, though I thought it would be a goody. I played five games while at Baltimore and now am certain that it is an excellent game. Well balanced, plays right to the end, exciting finish. Ray Freeman tells us that he did not set out to create a simulation as such, he wanted an exciting, simple Bulge game. Well that he got, but it also has the feel of a Bulge game.Detailed report as to the BKN tournament elsewhere

Yours aye, Murray
