Updated December 2000
At last I have had something to do; perhaps it has been a new-found sense of
competition or the arrival of winter. Anyway, enough babble and on with the
results. Jeff Hawarden has been the busiest member for results, though not
always in his favour. He lost one and won one in VITP against Albert Bowie of
the USA, a higher rated player in August and this raises his current rating to
1270. Unfortunately the following month he again shared victories in Panzer
Leader against Paul Selzer of the USA, a lower rated player and this drops his
rating to 1180. I then had the honour of a well-fought set of games in TRC with
Jeff and as I was the higher rated player, Jeff had his rating increase to 1200.
I saw my rating slip down to 1270. Mike Head, a new member racked up his first
set of results, splitting his games of War At Sea with Greg Dilbeck of the USA,
and raising his starting rating to 1240. Tony Goldsworthy, another new member
also achieved his first set of results in Breakout; Normandy and though it was a
draw in the first game, with the second cancelled against Paul Selzer of the
USA, Tony was the higher rated player and therefore lowers his starting rating
to 1160. Finally Robert Beattie had a set of results in The Russian Campaign
against Paul Selzer, sharing victories in the games and this unfortunately
lowers his rating to 1155, as Paul was the lower rated player.
A fairly productive autumn and early winter for results with the TRC the
favourite game followed by Panzer Leader, Victory in The Pacific and Breakout;
Normandy. Of note was the no response by Dave Smith (9036) to Paul Selzer for
their game of Breakout; Normandy, hopefully a one off and not a trend.
I have personally found Email to be a huge bonus for the swift turn round in the
games, resolving questions quickly and able to keep the strategy and tactics
uppermost in your mind without resorting to re-reading previous notes in order
to remember what was your masterplan.
