Secretary's Soapbox

I am writing this article the day after the terrorist atrocities in the U.S.A. I'm afraid that the more mundane aspects of life don't really seem very important at this time. I am sure that all of us in the European Region would wish to express our deepest condolences to all our friends, indeed everyone, going through this ghastly experience on the other side of the Atlantic. I will leave out any comments about the scum responsible for this. I'll keep the rest of the news brief. The October convention is coming up (19th to 21st). Please visit for a few hours if you can't make the whole weekend. Even if you don't want to try a game or two, why not come in and say hello and introduce yourself or meet old friends. You have a number of choices. Murray is the grey haired wizard-type figure, I'm much younger and more powerfully built, Barry will be playing a train game and Kevin will be bent over a board wondering why his eyesight is getting worse as Andy Cummins wipes the floor with him one more time. The tattooed lady I dare not even mention (she gets very nasty when angry!). No magazine recommendations this time. Just a plea to encourage everyone to go out and buy any magazine. A lot of people put a lot of effort into producing, generally, good magazines relating to our hobby. Not all hit the right place to grab your attention, but buying one or two here and there helps the guys who publish them and indirectly, helps the hobby as a whole. I often pick up a couple when I have nothing to read on the train in the evenings and there is usually something of interest. Go on, show them you care!

Chris Geggus.

PS. Please remember our American friends in your thoughts and prayers.
