Following the World Boardgaming Championships, recently concluded at Baltimore, Maryland, USA the AHIKS Europe Team has issued the following Press Statement. Immediate 8th August 2000.
Murray Cowles, the non playing Captain of the AHIKS Europe Team at this years WBC reports that, once again, the team has put up a very strong bid for the top spot. All results are not yet checked out, but there is no doubt that the team will be on the leader board.
Herbert Gratz, A3R, and Barri Beavis defending his 18xx title, both won their events, Andrew Cummins, competing for the first time in the team, against a large field and strong opposition posted a very creditable third place. Tom Oleson battled strongly in an enlarged field and against unexpected opposition in his chosen game of Anzio, in which he is the undisputed all time master. Once again the team has proved that it has strength in depth and can be relied upon to perform well.
In a personal statement Murray Cowles said, " Of course I am delighted with the way everyone pulled together, so as to once again challenge for the topspot. All the minor misunderstandings were quickly resolved and I know I have the teams confidence and look forward to leading them to final victory next year."
